“Chris at Absolutely Wood did my sisters’ cabinetry/woodwork. Wow, VERY impressive.
Her house is an older craftsman with an addition (room) that had inadequate storage. Chris worked with her to redesign the room. He let her know exactly what to expect (cool, because she was really nervous/obsessing about the whole project) and then delivered and installed a new wall of storage. She got cabinets, drawers, a closet and even a window seat (!) and it all happened exactly when he said it would. It looks fantastic, and it’s all really functional.
That room went from blah to beautiful. The attention to detail in the cabinetry really made the room….It’s now my favorite room in her house which is saying a lot because I really like her house.

Chris built us a kitchen banquette with beautiful bead board and clever storage in the bench. His designs were far more innovative and practical than the other contractors I spoke with. He also built us a custom gray-strained modern farmhouse trestle table for less money than it would have cost from Pottery Barn. Speaking of Pottery Barn, why would you ever shop there when Chris Hyland exists? The gods of mass-produced furniture shudder when they hear Chris Hyland’s name.
“Working with Chris Hyland of Absolutely Wood has always been fantastic. He’s always been a pleasure to work with. He has worked on at least 5 projects for me…including my new kitchen and master bath. When people walk into my kitchen they say “Wow! It looks like something out of a designer magazine!”. I didn’t hire a kitchen designer because Chris, the general contractor, and I all agreed “We don’t need a designer. We can do this ourselves.” And we did. Chris always had great ideas to lead me through it all. And his work is impeccable. I would definitely hire him in the future.”
“Chris is an amazing craftsman and designer. He helped us with design elements in our kitchen and two bathrooms. Because we were refurbishing an old kitchen there were design limitations creating challenges. With Chris’s ideas and his attention to detail our cabinets were installed with no “fitting issues.” After more than three years the drawers and cabinet hardware function perfectly and still look beautiful. I have never had a more useful kitchen. Corner cabinets with turntables, spice drawer, baking sheet slot drawer, under-sink drawer, deep lower cabinet drawers (my favorites; I don’t have to stand on my head to dig out pans etc.) The cabinet finish is amazing. I have never had any spill that didn’t wipe off even if it was dried on. (eeew!) Thank you Chris!”
“Chris has done several projects for my wife and I…custom bathroom shelving, custom garage storage cabinets, a custom TV console, refinishing an old coffee table…and probably some other stuff I’m just not remembering right now.
The main reason I keep having him back to do more projects…is very simple. He’s a great guy, and he does excellent work. Everything he has done for us is top-notch. He’s very flexible, he’ll work with you to meet your desires and job specificatiuons, he’s very detail-oriented, very professional, and easy to work with. And his prices are very reasonable too. We live in West San Jose, and even though he’s in Gilroy, I get the impression he has regular jobs up this way, so it’s not too far for him to come. Too many other contractors out there could learn a few things from Chris. Enough said!”
“Chris at Absolutely Wood knows so much about what works in kitchens that he is really a designer and a builder. He had suggestions for things I would never have thought of. Absolutely Wood did my kitchen cabinets almost ten years ago and everything still looks great and works great. Chris was easy to work with and really listened to what I wanted. Everything is exactly what I wanted from counter height to drawer size, to how far the drawers pull out. It all fits me and my needs and I still love it every day even after all these years. “We just recently finished an extensive remodel on our house. We took the house down to the bare studs. Our house was built in 1927 and is a beautiful bungalow, so we wanted to retain the old charm with all of the cabinetry.
We talked with many different cabinet makers and Absolutely Wood was definitely the best. Chris was amazing. While they are not the cheapest (which I wouldn’t want anyway), the quality of craftsmanship is second to none. He helped us with the design and made fantastic recommendations. Most importantly the team finished the project on time and on budget. We like the kitchen so much, that we had absolutely would do all of the cabinetry in our house including built-in drawers and our two bathrooms. We’ll use Absolutely Wood for any other project that we have coming up.”
